Post: October 28th, 2009: No Show Today

SleepIsGood

I apologize but I just couldn’t swing a show today. Between work and home, there were just too many irons in the fire so to speak and sleep needed to take priority over the show today.

Next week we’ll have our prize pack giveaway and we’ll get back on track. Have a great week everyone and have a Happy Halloween.

Nice short show today everyone. It’s been a hectic couple of weeks and now that the crew I work with is on the mend I feel as if I’m starting to catch the bug that seems to have hit our office. Hopefully it won’t go full circle. Next week is our prize pack giveaway, this time we’re giving away $100 Visa Gift card. This is my way of saying thanks for supporting the show. (Pictured is a photo of the Elevator Constructors from 1942. Get your own framed picture and at the same time support the EESF. $5 bucks from each sale goes back to the Elevator Escalator Safety Foundation.)

Another busy week at work as our shop has the flu bug going around which means double duty for a few of us here so remember to wash your hand’s everyone and as often as possible. I’m pretty sure that I’m catching it as well as I’m tired and feel the onslaught of being tired and having a sore throat. Another week filled with article’s everyone. You’ll enjoy the one written by Jim Collet, from Elevator Man Stories. I think it’s important to remember those who we worked with who may have passed on. Jim does an excellent job at doing this.  Also on the program today a story covering what I believe to be the worst elevator mine accident I’ve every read about, in which 26 miners in China where killed.  All I can say I’m glad that I live in the USA where codes and regulations are there to protect workers and the general public. (Pictured: Forty-one Cooper Square, in NY,  is being developed so that the elevator only stops at floors 1, 5 and 8. With the intent to make students use the stairs more often. I suspect a lawsuit addressing ADA will soon be in the news.)

I’m not sure where global warming is occurring or not but here in Chicago we seem unaffected by it. It’s October 7th and its windy and chilly. I just hope that winter doesn’t hit with a vengeance. This is the first show of the month and we’ll cover the calendar of events and news of the week. I was surprised at the number of stories I found online today. One story with a tragic ending involved a man in a motorized wheel chair who reportedly died when he drove into an elevator shaft and fell eight stories. As well as this accident we had another escalator handrail slider who is in serious condition after falling over the side of the unit.  Okay, note to self and anyone else who might be reading this. Sticky escalator hand rails not so slippery, keep both feet on step, hold on to handrail and watch step when getting off.  Support the EESF at www.eesf.org and perhaps people like this will be getting an education from their kids who have attended and learned from the Safety Rider Program!
