elevator fatality

Elevator Radio Show 492 – Week 1/10/2018

This New Year has started off tragically when an elevator mechanic was found dead on top of an elevator in Texas.  Details are still not complete yet and I will share them as they become available. As much as we talk about safety we need to press on and continue to promote it so that there are zero accidents and zero fatalities. The work that’s done in our industry is dangerous and not worth the pay grade many mechanics make if they don’t make it home to their family each night.  Do your part to press safety. Make it become the first thing you think about getting out of bed each morning.

Another accident claims the life of a technician in Montreal which brings the count up to three this year. Details are very limited at this time and we ask you to keep his family in your thoughts and prayers.   As more information is released I’ll share it on the program. I’m proud to have been a part of the Elevator Safety Summit and truly hope that the recommended steps each of the working committees comes up with are accepted and adopted so that we never have to read another story like this again.

Elevator Radio Show 440 - Week 08/31/16

The big story on today’s show is the shifting of elevator re-inspection strategy in the state of Massachusetts to help with the current backlog that exists.  My soapbox talk will be shared so be prepared for it. The important sentence that should be highlighted in first article link is the note that one in five annual safety checkups fail.  If there’s that great of a backlog here’s an idea, hire more inspectors because accidents like the ones linked on the show today are going likely to grow and it shouldn’t take a catastrophic event to make legislators think twice about not reinspecting elevators that fail.
