The first article of the show today shows the importance for the elevator code and why the enforcement of it is so important. While many feel as if the code is another form of government intervention nothing could be farther from the truth. When those out there build lifting devices by themselves and install them the reality of a tragedy occurring similar to the one in Mississippi is one much closer than many realize. Also, if you recognize the guy in the photo he’s wanted for sexually assaulting a women in an elevator. I woke up to what appeared to be a winter blizzard and was shocked driving in at how heavy the snow is. I guess the last two days of above freezing temps were enough to warm the ground up, making the snow that fell, wet and slushy. After the show I get to go shovel a bit of it which I hope is the last of this season. Have you ever seen an elevator like the one in this post? The person who sent it to me simply stated, “Only In Iowa”. I can’t imagine the condition of the rest of the elevator when the inside looks like this.

Just checking out the news this morning there’s a lot to cover. It’s good to be back behind the microphone again. Had a great time in icy Atlanta for the EESF AGM two weeks ago and it was nice to see those that made it in. I know for most of us getting home was the big concern. It’s one of those weeks that I'm not sure if I'm coming or I'm going. While the number of elevator and escalator news stories was fewer than normal the first two are pretty bad. One involved another over the side escalator accident fall which occurred in Michigan. One witness noted that she jumped up on the handrail only to fall over the side. Remember, escalator handrails are somewhat grippy and you should NEVER try to do this! She was lucky with her injury while others have died with these types of accidents. Also going on today is the Chicago Elevator Association code update seminar which I'm assisting with. I’m looking forward to seeing many of you who listen to the show at the event today. The ECNY is also having an action packed week as it holds its own vendor expo. For every one who’s out on the road, have safe travels on your way home.

Another shorter show this week everyone as we have some very light content on the program. Thanks for being patient with the new recording software. I think all in all it went pretty smoothly. It’s nice to see things settle down in the vertical transportation arena, especially when we’re talking about accidents in the news. I’d love to see the day that elevators and escalators fail to even make the news front.
